Rotary Elects Dr. Abdul Basit as President

Rotary Club of Islamabad Cosmopolitan (RCIC) organized an investiture ceremony to confer Rotary’s Presidential Collar upon its newly elected President, eminent educationist Dr. Abdul Basit. The handing-over and taking-over ceremony was held at local Hotel. His Excellency Hazem Hussain Abu Shanab, Ambassador of Palestine to Pakistan, was the chief guest on the occasion. The ceremony was attended in large numbers by the members of RCIC and other distinguished guests.

The ceremony commenced with out-going President, Rotarian Shakil H. Ansari’s detailed presentation on community welfare projects undertaken, during his tenure as RCIC President, in 2010-2011. After his presentation, past President RCIC, Rtn. Shakil H. Ansari called upon President elect Rtn. Dr. Abdul Basit to take charge of the Club affairs. Chief Guest of the ceremony, Palestinian Ambassador, Hazem Hussain Abu Shanab conferred the ‘Presidential Collar’ upon the new President, Rtn. Dr. Abdul Basit.

In his Acceptance Address, President elect Dr. Abdul Basit at the outset thanked his fellow Rotarians for posing confidence in him and electing him as the President of RCIC. He said that it was indeed a matter of privilege and honor for him to accept the coveted position that RCIC has given to him. He further said that he was fully aware of the formidable challenges that this very important position brings with it, and would do everything possible to fulfill the mandate of RCIC.

On the occasion, Dr. Abdul Basit profoundly lauded the efforts of past President RCIC, Rtn. Shakil H. Ansari. The welfare projects undertaken by him, during his tenure as President, merit special commendation, he said. He congratulated him and his team on their remarkable achievement, and assured him that the projects initiated during his tenure will continue to receive full support, during 2011-2012, till their successful completion.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest, Palestinian Ambassador, H.E. Hazem Hussain Abu Shanab congratulated Dr. Abdul Basit, on being elected as the President of RCIC. He expressed his hope and confidence that under his very able dynamic leadership RCIC would attain greater successes in times to come. Palestinian Ambassador, H.E. Hazem Hussain Abu Shanab wished his best to the newly elected President of RCIC, Dr. Abdul Basit and his team in all their endeavors directed towards the wellbeing of the people in their region.
