Workshop on ‘Disaster Risk Reduction’ held

ISLAMABAD July 22, 2010: The Disaster Research Institute (DRI) Preston University, Merlin International and Helpage International jointly organized a 3-day workshop on “Disaster Risk Reduction with special focus on vulnerable groups-Specially Older People.” The workshop was held at the Islamabad Campus of Preston University.
The workshop was formally inaugurated by Prof. Syed Shahid Afzal, Dean Faculty of Information (IT) Preston University.
The participants comprised of 25 medical professionals from the Pakistan chapter of Merlin International and Helpage International working in Swat, Buner and Jalozai camps in the northern areas of Pakistan.
Air Commodore (Retd) Naunehal Khan, Adviser, Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority ERRA) graced the closing ceremony of the workshop as chief guest.
He briefly addressed the participants of the workshop and distributed certificates among them Management Sciences, and former senior officers of ERRA, UNHCR, USAID and International NGOs conducted the workshop. During the workshop pertinent information material CDs of the proceeding was distributed among the participants for ready reference and use in the field.
