Launch of World Drug Report 2011:

Drug markets stable, consumption of synthetic and prescription drugs rises

United Nation’s Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is launching one of its flagship publications, the World Drug Report 2011 at the National Library Auditorium tomorrow at 11:00 am. This event will include a presentation focusing on drug challenges in Pakistan. Mr. Iftikhar Ahmed, Secretary Ministry of Narcotics Control, H. E. Mr. Rauf Engin Soysal, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Assistance to Pakistan and Major General Syed Shakeel Hussain, Director General Anti Narcotics Force will be participating.

The Annual UNODC World Drug Report documents developments in global drug markets, and in particular the specific challenges faced by the developing world. Pakistan remains one of the worst affected as its borders continue to be challenged by the trafficking of opium, heroin, cannabis and precursors. The analysis of trends and emerging challenges identified in the World Drug Report informs national and international drug and crime priorities and policies, and provides a solid foundation of evidence for counter-narcotics and criminal justice interventions.
