Hawks beat Eagles Black in Capital Cup

Hawks defeated Eagles Black 45-40 on the seventh day of the 5th Capital Cup Basketball Tournament here at the Hamidi Hall of the Pakistan Sports Complex Friday.

In the other match of the day, Rim Rockers had little trouble in disposing of CYSO Dolphins 59-38. Barring the first quarter, Eagles Black gave Hawks a good run for their money in the encounter.

Hawks played slightly better than their opponents in the low scoring first quarter as they led 10-6 at the end of the opening 10 minutes. After that it was a neck and neck battle throughout.

As the scores of the last three quarters show -- 14-14, 14-13, 7-7 -- there was nothing to choose from both the sides. Despite picking up their game after the first 10 minutes, Eagles Black was not able to wipe out Hawks’ four-point first quarter lead, which proved decisive in the end.

Adnan Hasan Rana led Hawks’ scorers with a contribution of 19 points. Yasir Ghafoor also had a good game for his 10 while Zahid Nabi chipped in with six points. Bilal Nawaz led Eagles Black challenge with 15 points. Fahad Butt and Imran Ahmed also played well for their 11 and 10 points respectively.

Rim Rockers led from start to finish as they were never tested by CYSO Dolphins at any stage of the match.

Ahmed was the best scorer for Rim Rockers, collecting 19 individual points. Mohsin Saifullah played equally well for his 16 and Omar Shafiq helped in with 12. Shakal Jamal added 18 points for CYSO Dolphins with Shumail Ashfaq and Akash Jamal scoring five and four points respectively.
