The Government of Japan has decided to extend financial support of US$ 88,175 (approx. Rs 7.4 million) to the Learning Awareness and Motivation Programme (LAMP) for Construction of Primary School in Raziq Kalay, Khyber Agency, FATA.

The agreement for the project was signed on Thursday, 08th September 2011, at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence in Islamabad between Mr. Hiroshi OE, the Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan and Nawabzada Fazal Karim Afridi, Chief Executive of LAMP.

The grant will be utilized for the construction of primary school comprising of six classrooms, one office room and four toilets. In addition, desks and chairs will also be provided for the students.

At present, the students of this village are studying under the open sky, sitting on the ground. There are many cases where the students, particularly young girls and boys, give up attending school due to miserable conditions of the existing schools despite their desire to continue their studies. With this project, about 200 children will be able to easily access the new school, which provides them with an opportunity for basic education in a safe and comfortable learning environment. This school has a capacity of accommodating 300 students, and the number of students is expected to increase in the future.

At the signing ceremony, Ambassador OE stressed that the provision of basic education to children is one of the priorities in Japan’s assistance policy towards Pakistan. He also expressed his hope that this project would give children a chance to carve out their better future, and in addition, it would certainly strengthen the existing friendly relations between the peoples of Japan and Pakistan.
