UNESCO to Train the PNCA and Lok Virsa Staff for Safeguarding Cultural Heritage
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is organized a 4-day training workshop to train the relevant government institutions to implement the 2003 convention of UNESCO for safeguarding the intangible cultural heritage. Lok Virsa Islamabad and Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) have nominated their relevant staff to attend this training workshop.
The workshop focuses on understanding the 2003 convention, data collection and inventorying of Intangible Cultural Heritage and use of Geographic Information System in mapping of intangible cultural heritage.
Country Director UNESCO Islamabad Ms. Kozue Kay Nagata said, “Pakistan has very rich cultural heritage and it is very important to safeguard both the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Pakistan.” She emphasized to link culture with economic development. Director General PNCA Tauqeer Nasir appreciated UNESCO efforts to train the PNCA and Lok Virsa staff on safeguarding intangible cultural heritage. He also elaborates PNCA initiatives and achievements in promoting and documenting of both the tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
