UNDP goodwill envoy visits DTCE office

ISLAMABAD July 23, 2010: Global Goodwill Ambassador for United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Misako Konno visited the office of Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment (DTCE) here on Friday. UNDP country Director Toshihiro Tanaka was also with him.
Chairman DTCE Daniyal Aziz and Chief Executive officer Mushir Naqvi along with Noor Citizen Community Board (CCB) members welcomed the dignitaries.
The UNDp ambwssador was also briefed about a project of the Noor CCB in a detailed meeting. She was also shown a documentary about the women vocational centre at Haripur from where more than 1200 women have got vocational training and successfully earning their livelihood.
Ms Misako Konno lauded the efforts and role of the CCB members in capacity building of the women workers. “It is better to teach people to grow rice than to give them rice” ambassador said. She believes that this is the essence of development assistance.
UNDP country director Toshihiro Tanaka told the meeting as to how the UN’s global development network brings about change by connecting people to knowledge, experience and resources to help them build a better life.
