Climbing competition held in capital

ISLAMABAD, October 24, 2010: A climbing competition was held here at the heart of federal capital by the Ibex club, a project of Revive Foundation. The competition was organized in collaboration with PETZL Enterprises, Dejuice Telenor Pakistan, Capital Development Authority and FM 91.
Talking to INFN, Esam Khattak, the Managing Director Ibex Club, said that Pakistan, with the most Unique geographical features, is relatively new to the sports of rock climbing. Nowadays it is getting very popular, particularly amongst youth and masses through the development of first artificial climbing structure in Islamabad. Rock climbing has increased in popularity as both a recreational activity as well as the competitive sport for last 15-20 years.
Talking about the game, he said that one can easily participate in the game who can fit in harness. He said that basic equipment, like pair of shoes, a harness and a belay device with locking carabiner is available at the club.
Col Manzoor, president of Alpine Club, was the chief guest of the competition who distributed awards amongst the winners of the competition in different categories. He lauded the efforts made by the Ibex Club in the introduction and promotion of extreme sport in Pakistan. He also appreciated the environment, provided by the Ibex Club for learners to learn the art of the climbing.
Later he distributed prizes to winners of the competition in open (boys and girls) advanced technical and speed climbing categories, in which more than fifty competitors participated.
Esam Khattak also told this agency that club will hold a series of competitions in coming December.
