AHKRC hold memorial lecture

ISLAMABAD 25,10,2010: Akhtar Hameed Khan Resource Centre (AHKRC) in collaboration with Rural Support Program Network RSPN organised a memorial lecture, book launch and book award ceremony on Monday with having Dr. Anwar Sidiqui, president International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) as chief guest on the occasion.
The ceremony was well attended by students, rural development workers and many other people from different walks of life.
Memorial lecture was delivered by Mr. Mahmood Hassan Khan, Professor Emeritus and Simon Fraser University Canada. In his lecture he said that social and economical progress should be a continuous change. He also talked about the poverty, inequality and well-being. “At its roots, poverty means deprivation and it can become trans-generation trap and rural poor suffers more than the urban poor” he said.
Chief guest Dr Anwar Hussain Sidiqui, while speaking on the occasion lauded the role of Late Akhtar Hameed Khan for the development of rural areas. “It was a privilege to attend the ceremony commemorating a great rural development practitioner” he said.
Previous, Mr. Shoaib sultan Khan, chairperson RSPN and Fayyaz Baqir, director AHKRC opened the ceremony with their remarks.
Later, two books were announced for Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial book award. Funding for this award (Rs, 50,000) was provided by National Rural Support Program (NRSP) and the book nominations were received, reviewed and selected for award by council of Social Sciences (COSS).
