Seminar on MDGs Compliant Budget on Saturday
Awaz Foundation Pakistan and Journalists for Democracy and Human Rights (JDHR) are organizing a pre-budget seminar entitled, “We demand budget for Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)” tomorrow (Saturday) 21st May 2011 at Hill View Hotel, Jinnah Super Market Islamabad.
Prominent economists, media analysts, academia, representative from government and civil society will participate in the seminar. A civil society perspective of the MDGs 2010 report will be presented at the seminar.
The policy seminar aims at urging the governments to make a clear plan for achieving MDGs and back the plans with budgetary allocations. The ability to achieve the MDGs and sustain success however, depends on whether or not we invest in basic services to achieve the MDGs for our future generation and prosperity of the country.
The recently concluded conference of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in Turkey has also recommended countries to invest in achieving MDGs. Similarly, SAARC leaders in Dhaka had also committed to invest to achieve SAARC Development Goals.
