The Department of History, Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), organised an art and craft exhibition here on Saturday with an aim to provide a platform to students to showcase their hidden talent and regional cultures.

The exhibition was a joint venture of students and faculty members of the Department of History.

QAU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Masoom Yasinzai inaugurated the exhibition and appreciated the efforts of students and faculty. Students displayed more than 600 artworks in four categories, including personal art and creativity, regional crafts, collections and display of personal talent.

The purpose behind the initiative was to educate students to cherish and celebrate diversity instead of intolerance which leads to violence. “The exhibition is a huge success since it has achieved the desired aim of creating a sense of unity among students,” said Fouzia Farooq, a faculty member of the department.

The participation of students in the exhibition was overwhelming which brought not only items representing cultures of all provinces, but also unique artworks created by them.

Stalls were allocated to students where they stood and explained salient features of arts and crafts to visitors.

There were also live performances of Rubab, Sitar, Tabla and Balochi Chapp by students, which were appreciated by all.

The response from students and faculty members of other departments of the Quaid-i-Azam University was enormous. Students from other universities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad also visited the exhibition. The exhibition was a successful attempt to reflect the soft image of Pakistan and promote regional harmony.
