NH&MP contributes to eradicate Polio
PESHAWAR, September 27, 2010: As many as 57 Toll plazas of Motorways and National Highways have been made special polio vaccination camps under jurisdiction of National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP); so that all the children traveling on Motorways and National Highways may be vaccinated with polio drops.
The initiative has been taken in order to vaccinate maximum children, who are at a risk to miss the vaccination campaign as they are traveling. NH&MP has joined hands with the Ministry of Health, WHO and UNICEF for the eradication of Polio Virus from Pakistan.
Special ceremonies were held at M-1 toll plaza Peshawar Main Toll Plaza, Islamabad today, where the IG NH&MP Dr. Wasim Kausar and Federal Minister for Health Makhdoom Shahabud Din & DIG motorways Dr. Muhammad Shafiq inaugurated the three day (27-30 September, 2010) polio vaccination campaign by vaccinating the children traveling on Motorways & Highways.
The Federal Minister for Health Makhdoom Shahabud Din praised the efforts of NH&MP in helping the out of box for eradication of polio from Pakistan.
On this occasion, the IG, NH&MP said that all the toll plazas from Karachi to Peshawar Highway, Makran Coastal Highway, RCD Highway - Quetta and on all the Motorways from Peshawar – Lahore – Faisalabad have been made special polio camps, where the children traveling on these Motorways & National Highways are being vaccinated with polio drops.
He further said that through these polio drives, the NH&MP can be helpful by saving the future of our children. He added that during the last nine polio drives, more than 375,000 children were immunized from polio. He also said that in this way thousands of children who remain isolated during the campaign due to traveling on Motorways & National Highways would also be benefited.
The DIG motorways Dr. Shafiq said that due to the efforts of NH&MP no patient of polio will be able to transfer the virus of polio from one place to another place, due to which polio cases have been stuck up in their certain areas.
